Ustadha Maryam Shaikh


Maryam Shaikh was born in Toronto, Canada, and moved to Damascus, Syria with her family at the age of 8. There she began studying Tajweed under the tutelage of Ustadha Mayas Al-Nashawaati, a student of the noble Shaykh Kurayyim Rajih, one of the ten Qurr’a (Recitors) of Damascus of recent times. In 2012, she relocated to Amman, Jordan, where she attended the Futtuwwa Institute and graduated in 2016 as a Hafidha of the Holy Quran at 16 years of age. She received her Ijaza in the Hafs ‘an Asim recitation from Ustadha Salwa Al-Qaraqi’ in 2017. This ijaza permits her to teach the Quran in it’s entirety to other students. Maryam studied Tafsir, Hadeeth, Fiqh, Nahw, Islamic History and other Islamic sciences in a two-year program at the Ridwan Institute in Amman, Jordan. She is currently in her first year of University Program in Toronto, Ontario.
