About the Course
This course discusses a variety of important landmarks in the journey to memorize the holy Quran. It provides invaluable advice for those who aspire to memorise the Quran competently. It is taught by an authorized Hafiz of the Quran who has studied the Quran from beginning to end with many renowned scholars. Sheikh Hatim has also taught Hifz for many years as a teacher in Hifz schools as well as to individuals. His main teaching focus is to instill into his students the passion to memorise the Quran well, to master Tajweed and to become of the true people of the Quran. Sheikh Hatim will introduce many books on the subject of Hifz and will share his personal knowledge and experience with the book of Allah. He himself was inspired to become a Hafiz by his own mother who managed to memorise the Quran at the age of seventy. She always encouraged him with her state and words to be attached to the Quran. He believes that the best gift any parent or teacher can give to their children and students is love of the Quran.
Understanding the many struggles and difficulties that occur while memorising and reviewing the Quran, Sheikh Hatim has intended for this course to be both inspirational and instructional. He will narrate the stories of the Huffaz he has met and known as great role models of love for and dedication to the Quran.
The tradition of memorising the Quran began with the Sahaba and has continued without fail over 1400 years. Throughout the world, thousands of students work diligently to preserve the holy scripture, only a few becoming true people of the Quran with mastery of Tajweed, strong memorization and remarkable Quranic character traits. This is due partly to the amount of time and effort one has to exert to recite the Quran exactly as it has been revealed, but also because many people lose their Himma and they get distracted along the way by a world of myriad diversions.
Containing many similar words and topics, verses of the Quran can easily be challenging for a student of Hifz. The Quran, too, is in Arabic and if one is unable to link verses through meaning, one finds it difficult to remember the following verse or word. Sheikh Hatim introduces techniques to commit verses to memory through mnemonics and meaning-related techniques, among other tips and methods. Understanding the Quran will impact one’s heart and recitation, as it helps the student picture the story of what is being recited and gives him or her clarity as to which word or verse fits which Surah.
Finally, Sheikh Hatim will discuss the importance of the Quran, the difference between merely reading and learning it by heart, and the significance of having a sheikh that gives one a sense of commitment and guides one along the path of memorisation and review. Come and join us and let’s change the Umma together!
