About the Course
Many of us often struggle with Arabic grammar and come to a screeching halt when it comes to our studies of Arabic due to its rigorous and challenging nature. The aim of this course is not to get into the finer points of nahw, sarf and balagha, rather, it is to increase us in, and deepen our understanding of the words of the Arabic language, thereby making our daily recitation of the Quran much more meaningful.
للَّهُ نَزَّلَ أَحْسَنَ الْحَدِيثِ كِتَابًا مُّتَشَابِهًا مَّثَانِيَ تَقْشَعِرُّ مِنْهُ جُلُودُ الَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ ثُمَّ تَلِينُ جُلُودُهُمْ وَقُلُوبُهُمْ إِلَىٰ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ…
Allah has sent down the best discourse, a book containing subjects resembling each other, mentioned again and again, shivered from which are the skins of those who have awe of their Lord. Then, their skins and their hearts become soft enough to tend to the remembrance of Allah… (Surah Zumar, Ayah 23).
The most important aspect of a language that a student needs in order to master it is not grammar. Even if a person had no knowledge of grammar, yet had a solid understanding of the vocabulary, they would be able to truly understand much of what is being delivered. This course is the beginning of a journey, of course, as vocabulary is a lifetime of learning, however, the amount of Quranic words are limited, they repeat, and there is a high rate of frequency, so if you practice every day, all you would need to do to get an excellent start is to learn the most important words used. This is the best method to take to begin to understand the words of Allah (Mighty and Majestic):
أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ وَلَوْ كَانَ مِنْ عِندِ غَيْرِ اللَّهِ لَوَجَدُوا فِيهِ اخْتِلَافًا كَثِيرًا
Then (do) not they ponder (on) the Quran? And if it had (been) from other than Allah, surely they (would have) found in it much contradiction (Surah Nisa, Ayah 82).
