The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “Whoever does not show mercy to people, Allah will not show mercy to him..” We have to reach in our pockets and help those in need of help. If we can’t cover everyone with our money, we can at least cover them with our du’as; saying something like:
“O Allah, lift the troubles, sorrow, and pain from all those afflicted with it of the entire Ummah of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, one and all, and the downtrodden of them in India, China, Kashmir, Yemen, Gaza, Palestine and everywhere. And triumph them to a powerful, signal, and unmistakable victory in this world before the next: and aid the poor and helpless, and those reduced to misery in this world of the Muslim Nations entirely. And protect them by Your Invincible Self from unbelief, poverty, and every form of evil. And protect us all the Ummah of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, by Your Very Self from the world economic recession if it should come. And make it the best for us and coolness and safety.”
One should recite this at the time of tahajjud; Shafi’i’s in their sujud, and Hanafi’s after ending the salah.
Sheikh Nuh, may Allah preserve him, mentioned this in the Highest Signs lesson in the context of verse 44 of Surah Al-Muddatthir (74).
If we say the like of this in our tahajjud from our hearts, Allah may create tremendous good out of it. And when giving charity or making du’a, we should not focus on these works, but on Allah, who is creating them and honouring us by manifesting them at our hands, and inspiring us to do them: presence of heart with Allah in the very act is a sign of their acceptance with Him, and a du’a that Allah accepts will accomplish a great deal.
