The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Every disease has a cure. If a cure is applied to the disease, it is relieved by the permission of Allah Almighty.”
By the grace and help of Allah, doctors and medicine today can cure more diseases than ever before. Not too long ago, diseases such as dysentery, malaria, small pox, diphtheria, and even the flu caused significant deaths.
Despite the medicinal cures we have at our disposal, we should always strive to remember Allah first and ask for His help. Ibn ‘Abbās , who reported that the Messenger of Allah used to teach [the Companions] to say for all pains and fevers: “In the name of Allah the Great, we seek protection with Allah the Mighty from the evil of throbbing veins and from the evil of the heat of Hell-Fire.”
بِاسمٍ اللهِ الكَبِيرُ، نَعُوذُ بِاللهِ العَظِيمِ مِن شَرِّ عِرقٍ نَعَّارٍ وَمِن شَرِّ حَرِّ النَّارِ
“Bismi-llāhi-l-Kabīr, na‘ūdhu bi-llāhi-l-‘Aẓīmi min sharri ‘irqin na‘‘ārin wa min sharri ḥarri-n-Nār.”
One should recite al-Fātiḥah, Qul Huwa-llāhu Aḥad and al-Mu‘awwidhāt over oneself and then blow onto one’s hands, as was described above. One should also make the du‘ā’ of difficulties mentioned earlier.
