After several battles between the Muslims and the Arab tribes, who sought to eliminate Islam, Quraysh gathered an army to attack Medina. The Battle of al-Khandaq, also known as the Battle of the Trench, took place in the fifth year of the Hijra. It was a pivotal conflict between the Muslims and the coalition of Arab tribes, headed by Quraysh.
