Duaa when drinking Zamzam Water

It is reported that Al-Hasan (رضي الله عنه) stated that du’a is accepted in 15 places: in tawaf, at the multazimah, under the Mizab (waterspout); inside the House i.e. [the Kaaba]; at the well of Zamzam; on Safa; on Marwa; on the Mas’a; behind the Maqam of Ibrahim; on Arafat; at Muzdalifah; at Mina; and at the three Jamarat. Anyone who fails to exert himself in du’aa at these places is deprived of immense benefits.

We relate from Jabir (رضي الله عنه), who narrated that the Messenger of Allah, (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: “Zamzam water if for what it is drunk for.” Such has been the practice of the ‘ulama and the virtuous; they drank it for their lofty purposes and achieved them. 

According to the ‘ulama it is mustahab for anyone who drinks it for forgiveness, cure from an ailment, or any other reason, to say when drinking:

اَللّهُمَّ إِنَّهُ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ رَسُولَكَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: “مَاءُ زَمْزَمَ لِمَا شُرِبَ لَهُ”، اَللّهُمَّ وَإِِنّي أَشْرَبُهُ لِتغْفِرَ لِي وَ لِتَفْعَلَ بِي كَذَا وَ كَذَا، فَاغْفِر لِي وَ افْعَلْ.  اَللّهُمَ إِنِّي أُشْرَبُهُ مُسْتَشْفِيأ بِهِ فَاشْفِنِي

Allahuma innahu balaghani anna Rasulaka salla-llahu ‘alayhi wa sallama qal: “Ma’u Zamzama li-ma shuriba lah”, Allahumma wa inni ashrabuhu li-taghfira li wa li-taf’ala bi (add appropriate words), fa-ghfir li wa-f’al.” Or: “Allahumma inni Ashrabuhu mustashfiyan bihi fa’shfini.

“Oh Allah, it has been conveyed to me that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم) said: “The water of Zamzam is for what it is drunk for.” Oh Allah, I have drunk it so that You may do such-and-such for me; so forgive me and do so.”
Alternatively, one may say: “Oh Allah, I have drunk it seeking a cure, so cure me.” And Allah knows best.
