What to Say When the Wind Blows

We relate from the Sahih of muslim from Aishah() who related that when the wind blew violently the Prophet( صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) would say:

الَّلهُمَّ إنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا وَخَيْرَ مَا فِيهَا وَخَيْرَ مَا أُرسِلَت بَهَ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِن شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا وَشَرِّ مَا أُرسِلَت بِهِ

Allahumma inni as’aluka khayraha wa khayra ma fiha wa khayra ma ursilat bih, wa a’udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha wa sharri ma ursilat bih.

Oh Allah, I ask You for the good of it, the good that is in it, and the good that it was sent with; and I seek Your protection from the evil of it, the evil that is in it, and the evil that it was sent with.

We relate in the Sunan of Abu Dawud, and from Ibn Majah with a hasan isnad from Abu Hurayrah who reported that the Messenger of Allah( صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) said: “ The wind is one of the mercies of Allah towards His servants. It brings mercy and it brings punishment. So when you feel it, do not curse it: ask Allah for the good of it and ask His protection from the harm of it.” His words ( صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) from the wind of Allah, with fathah on the letter ra are said by the scholars to mean from the mercy of Allah (Most High) towards His servant.
