Opening the Door: Ijaza and Tafsir of Surat al-Fatiha
Sheikh Samer Jabr / Sawsan Nashaat
The opening chapter of the Quran, surat al-Fatiha, summarises the entire Book of Allah and our purpose in this life. Al-Fatiha praises Allah and expresses his sovereignty and attributes of perfection. Not only is it obligatory to know how to recite it correctly for our prayers, but it is paramount that we understand what it means. In this ijaza class, you will learn the correct tajwid of surat al-Fatiha with our qualified teachers and, as a bonus, receive access to its tafsir, taught by Sheikh Nuh Keller. We will focus on the rich vocabulary, metaphors, and rhetorical features used in the Fatiha and which are characteristic of the entire Quran. This short course is perfect to keep us mindful during the blessed month of Ramadan, as it reminds us that Allah is the sole source of help and the only One whom we worship. We all recite this sura many times every day, but perhaps out of habit and repetition, we lose the sense of its meaning and repeat it carelessly in our salat. The Fatiha Ijaza course will be an opportunity to improve and perfect our prayers.
